Are We Ourselves (The Fixx)
Growing up in the early/mid-eighties I was completely engrossed in the new wave movement. My all time favorite band to this day remains The Police and therefore it is little surprise that the catchy, edgy tunes of the band The Fixx would remain hugely influential for me.
In this performance video I made a point to employ a secondary, popcorn snare for timbre contrast to match the track’s mix. Also of interest to the student is the contrasting use of traditional group in the verses and open handed/left hand lead on the chorus’. Musically this tune employs subtle syncopation transitions in the melodies’ design with accents on the “ands” of 4 being quite prevalent.
